Task Force Butler is an Allied Mechanized division in Steel Division II, available in the Lucky 13 free reinforcement pack. Created as a fast-moving exploitation detachment after the landings of Operation Dragoon, Task Force Butler pursued a retreating Wehrmacht north in the Rhône valley in late August 1944. Built around the 117th Armored Cavalry Squadron, this formation’s aim was to advance rapidly and outflank, not possessing the forces to hold captured ground for long.
The battlegroup’s recon units are top-notch, from Cavalry Scouts to Greyhounds and M3A1 Cavalry half-tracks. Infantry is limited, but helpful reinforcements are provided by French FFI troops and elite OSS special forces. Anti-tank units are light, with Wolverines complementing the armored fist of Shermans, Stuarts, and Greyhounds used in a direct combat role. The formation’s lack of AA is offset by plentiful American, British, and Free French Air Forces’ warplanes.
Task Force Butler is meant for speed and maneuver warfare, lacking the numbers and firepower to mount a strong defense.
