==Background==
[[1. Páncélos Hadosztály]] was supported by Kampfgruppe Ameiser from 22. SS-Freiwilligen Kavallerie-Division. 22. SS-Freiwilligen Kavallerie-Division was formed using Royal Hungarian Army Volksdeutsche transferred to German service. Kampfgruppe - Ameiser was originally Kampfgruppe Wiedemann making up of SS Volunteer Cavalry Regiment 52 along with attachments were sent to reinforce LVII Panzerkorps but was overrun and split into two pocket. One pocket lead by ''SS-Hauptsturmführer'' Harry Vandieken was able to return to friendly lines. The second pocket lead by ''SS-Hauptsturmführer'' Anton 'Toni' Ameiser with only 48 able to make it back to German lines.
