Background[]

This battalion was created in 1.1.1942 for the mission of guarding the perimeters of German concentration camps in the Netherlands manned by Dutchmen and a company of Ukrainians. These dutchmen were escaping forced labor or a trip to the east while some others were not physical fit for front line service. This battalion had multiple complaints to the military police about their behavior. During Market Garden, SS-Wachbataillon 3 were sent to repel the airborne landing but due to the lack of military training were crushed by the British airborne.
