UE 630(f) is a German Transport unit.
Overview[ | ]
Renault UE Chenillette was created as a light armored carrier and prime mover in 1931, in response to a response by the French Infantry for a vehicle capable of towing and supplying small cannons and mortars. The resulting tractor was very small, but exceeded expectations: With an own mass of 775 kg, it could carry a load of 350 kg and tow a trailer with up to 600 kg. 5 168 units were produced (including the improved UE2 variant) and issued to French army units. After the fall of France in 1940, about 3000 UE tractors of both types were captured and pressed into service. After overhauling by AMX under MAN's oversight, they were used as tractors for 37 mm, 50 mm, 75 mm, and 76.2 mm anti-tank guns. A number of these were further modified to serve as weapon platforms.
