For the Steel Division II unit see SD2:Seafire L.III Recon Plane

Seafire L.III Recon Plane is a British Air unit.

Overview[ | ]

Seafire was the naval version of the Supermarine Spitfire. The concept of the Seafire was thought up as early as May 1938 to replace obsolete aircraft in use in the Fleet Air Arm. But production of the normal Spitfires was more important.  The Seafire F.III Dogfighter was the first true carrier adaptation of the Spitfire with folding wings. Seafire L.III is the Reconnaissance variant of the design. In Normandy, Seafire L.III Recon Plane were used by four FAA Squadrons (808, 885, 886 and 897) to provide target coordinates and fire control for RN and USN battleships and cruisers.
