Pz.Schreck is a German Anti-tank unit. Pz.Schreck does not push the red-line and units do not surrender to it! Pz.Schreck receives the same concealment bonus as any 4-men and less recon infantry!
Pz.Schreck can be used for both, hunting enemy armored units by moving through cover towards the target, or denying passage to enemy vehicles through a chokepoint by sitting (undetected) at one.
Despite better knowledge it does happen from time to time, that the opponent makes the mistake of either ordering his armored units to a spot within the 250m range of the Panzerschreck (waiting under cover) or allowing for one or even multiple Pz.Schreck to sneak up on them. As long as the opponent does not commit such mistake, Pz.Schreck remain useless.
Composed of mere 2 men the Pz.Schreck fireteam dies extremely fast. Uppon being spotted the team should immediatelly be ordered into safety, it might barely survive the enemy counterattack to get into (a concealed) position again to be able to fire another shot. Consider to wait for the unit to calm down, to remove the accuracy penalty from being stressed out!
With a deployment cost of 30 it might be considered a good move, to sacrifice one Pz.Schreck to take out a higher value enemy unit.
Whereas Axis infantry units with anti-tank weapons have a range of 150m or 100m, Pz.Schreck comes with 250m. It might be able for the opponent to keep his units just of the 150m range (while shooting at this infantry) but not out of the 250m range.
In some situations, Pz.Schreck might be one of the very few anti-tank units one has.
When opponent fields the unit[ | ]
Pz.Schreck receives the same concealment bonus as any 4-men and less recon infantry! Regular infantry can only reconoiter Pz.Schreck when very close to them. To non-recon vehicles, these small fireteams remain invisible until very very close to them even in open terrain.
While the A.I. always orders infantry across open terrain, a human opponent will act much more prudently and keep his Pz.Schreck well concealed. When the opponent could field Pz.Schreck one needs to either keep his armored units more then 250m away from buildings, hedges, forrests, etc. where Pz.Schreck could be laying in ambush or make sure, this is not the case by sending own infantry there, as even recon units have a hard time spotting Pz.Schreck.
Doing "recon by death" with a cheap vehicle unit might be better then having Pz.Schreck stall your tanks from moving forward.
Chokepoints need to be cleared by own infantry before armor can pass them. In case no infantry is available for the task, it might be sufficient to shoot a couple of artillery rounds at it.
Historical background[ | ]
In the Grenadier Regiment's Anti Tank Company along with the anti-tank gun platoon of three guns there are two platoons of each with 18 Panzerschreck.
