Piper Cub is a French Air unit.

Overview[]

One of the most well known light aircraft in history, the Piper J-3 Cub was produced between 1938 and 1947 by Piper Aircraft. Simple, affordable, and reliable, the monoplane was powered by an air-cooled piston engine. Its stability and ease of use made it a perfect trainer aircraft for the Civilian Pilot Training Program established in the United States in 1939.

Its usability went beyond that, however. A militarized version, the L-4 Grasshopper, was introduced in 1941 (originally called O-59), and was used for artillery observation and scouting during the Invasion of France, allowing Allied units to located German strongpoints and armor, reducing the chance of ambush.

Each American organized Artillery Battalion has two Piper Cubs in the Headquarters battery.
