M7 DD is a United States Support unit. It sports a powerful M2A1 howitzer (also found on the M7 HMC) that is horizontally elevated to provide direct fire support at 1200m range. As indicated by the term 'DD', the M7 is an amphibious vehicle, able to traverse rivers (like many Indianhead division units). It fires a potent 15 HE shell with a reasonable rate of fire, but is weakly armoured and vulnerable to AT and tanks.

Overview[ | ]

The widely used American-developed 105mm M2A1 howitzer was the standard American light field howitzer in the Second World War, as can be attested by its total production figure of 8500 guns. It gained a reputation as an accurate and powerful howitzer, and was used by the Americans in the European and the Pacific theatre. One of the more well-known variants mounting the 105mm howitzer was the M7 Priest, which British forces also used until the arrival of the British 25-pdr-armed Sexton in 1943.

Strategy[ | ]

The M7 DD can traverse rivers and provide powerful fire support against soft targets. It is however weakly armoured and can be quickly put out of action if fired upon. Its main way of survival is to keep some distance from enemy units and avoid confrontation with tanks. It has poor accuracy, but this matters little as the AoE damage caused by the HE shell will quickly suppress units even if they are not directly hit.
