M1919 MMG is a United States Infantry unit.
Overview[]
A machine gun team, intended to provide other infantry units with fire support, in major contrast with the German doctrine, where infantry squads are built around MG 34 and MG 42 machine guns.
Each Infantry Company had a Weapons Platoon with a Mortar Section along with a light Machine Gun Section. The Mortar Section had three Mortar 60mm. The Light Machine Gun Section had two M1919. After the Normandy Landing to increase the firepower of the infantry battalion, HQ company gained six M1919 to be issued as required.
