DUKW is a six-wheel-drive amphibious modification of the 2½ ton CCKW trucks. These were used to transport personnel and supplies from ship to shore. DUKW is GMC nomenclature D standing for 1942, U for utility (amphibious), K for all-wheel drive, and W for 2 powered rear axles.
