CMD M5A1 is a United States Tank unit.

These M5A1 serve as command tanks for the various light tank formations.
3rd Armored was one of the two American Armored Divisions that remained with the heavy armored division composition. The 32nd and 33rd Armored Regiments had two Medium Tanks Battalions along with a light Tanks Battalion. Before the Normandy Landing, the Armored Regiments were reorganized with each tank battalion have two medium tank companies and a light company. 82nd Armored Reconnaissance Battalion also had a Light Tank Company.
101st Airborne had Co D, 70th Tank Battalion and 759th Tank Battalion attached during periods of the Normandy Campaign. Each light tank company has three platoon of 5 M5A1 along with a command section of two M5A1.
