CMD M4A1 Pool is a United States Tank unit.

Overview[ | ]

Staff-Sergeant Lafayette Green Pool is commonly considered to be the greatest American tank ace of World War II. Born in Texas, Pool was drafted in Summer 1941, and assigned to the 3rd Armored Division. He quickly distinguished himself as a capable and aggressive combat commander, but turned down the opportunity to attend officer school, preferring closer combat instead. Promoted to Staff-Sergeant, he was part of the 32nd Armore Regiment deployed to Normandy and fought through Normandy and Belgium all the way to the Rhine, losing three tanks in the process: A regular M4A1 damaged by a Panzerfaust, an M4A1(76) destroyed in a friendly fire incident with a P-38, and a second one at the Siegfried line.

His tour ended when he was wounded by a Panther during the assault . This was the third time the war tried to get him off the battlefield, and it succeeded, sending him home sans leg, but with 12 confirmed tank kills and 258 other armored vehicles to his name. However, Wardaddy continued his career, serving in the Transportation Corps during the Korean War and as instructor in the 3rd Armored into the 1960s.
