==Overview==
Major Richard D. Winters entered the war as a First Lieutenant. During the D-day landings, Lieutenant Winters was attached to the  E-company of 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the [[101st Airborne]]. During the drops, the C47 Skytrain carrying the company commander crashed.

With the fate of the company commander unknown, Lieutenant Winters, who was the highest ranking officer at the time, became field promoted to company commander and Captain.

He continued to fight during the war and participated in the liberation of the Netherlands, and the battle of the Bulge.

He stayed with the army after the war and resigned just before being shipped of the Korea, leaving the army as a Major.

He was made famous by the HBO series ''Band of Brothers.''
