Background

Tirailleurs were the French Designation for indigenous infantry recruited in the French colonial territories in this case from French Equatorial Africa. This Tirailleurs served in various Bataillon de Marche. 2^e brigade had Bataillon de Marche 4, 5, and 11. 4^e brigade had Bataillon de Marche 21 and 24.

1e DFL was rearmed by American equipment using the a modified American Infantry Division organization. M1917 Enfield was used as the main rifle. American rearmament had some issues so French forces had to depend on legacy equipment.

2nd Marine Infantry Regiment now carries the heritage of 2^e brigade of 1e DFL. While 1st Marine Infantry Regiment carries the heritage of 4^e brigade of 1e DFL.
