Background[]
The primary parachute and glider assault force was made up of 500th SS Parachute Battalion. This battalion was divided into three parachute (Gruppe 'Rot', Gruppe 'Grün' and Gruppe 'Blau') and six glider-borne assault groups. Gruppe 'Panther' was to take Tito’s headquarters. Gruppe 'Greifer' to destroy the British military mission. Gruppe 'Stürmer' to destroy the Soviet military mission. Gruppe 'Brecher' to destroy the US military mission. Gruppe 'Draufgänger' reinforced by elements from Brandenburg, Abwehr and Četniks to take crossroads east of Dvar and a radio station. Gruppe 'Beisser' was to take a outpost radio station. [1]
