Pz.Grenadier is a German Infantry unit in Steel Division II.

Background[ | ]

Coming into existence in 1942, after changes to motorized and Panzer divisions, the Panzer-Grenadier as a mixed infantry/motorized unit was born. By the time of the Operation Bragation there was no doubt these units, which were in either Pz. or PzG. divisions, were some of the best equipped and trained men that the Wehrmacht had at its disposal. Due to infantry losses, motorized Panzergrenadier squad was reduced to 12 while the armored Panzergrenadier squad was reduced to 10.

21. Panzer had first Panzergrenadier battalions of Panzergrenadier-Regiment 192 and Panzergrenadier-Regiment 125 mounted in U304(f), with the other two Panzergrenadier battalions were mounted in French trucks.

Panzer-Lehr has all of their Panzergrenadier Battalions of Panzergrenadier-Regiment 901 and 902 equipped with Sd.Kfz. 251/1.

All of the other Panzer Division has a one battalion mounted in Sd.Kfz. 251/1 while other three battalion are motorized.

716. Infanterie was supported by Kampfgruppe Rauch from 21. Panzer. This Kampfgruppe Rauch was made up from Panzergrenadier-Regiment 192 with two companies from Panzer-Pionier-Bataillon 220 and II. Bataillon/ Panzer-Artillerie-Regiment 155. The I. Bataillon was the armored Panzergrenadier battalion of the regiment.

25. Panzergrenadier had two regiments 35th and 119th Panzergrenadier regiments both which were motorized.

20. Panzer orginally had two Panzergrenadier regiments Panzergrenadier-Regiment 59 and 112. Elements of the 20. Panzer's Kampfgruppe Brausch served with 1 Blindata "România Mare".

52. Sicherungs-Division z.b.V. was supported by Panzer Brigade 103 which had Panzer-Grenadier-Bataillon 2103.

Panzerverband Strachwitz has 2101 Panzergrenadierbataillon in 101. Panzerbrigade. SS-Panzerbrigade Gross had two Infanterie-Bataillon with second detached to serve with other divisions.

Sperrverband Kessel commanded Kampfgruppe Gradl and Kampfgruppe Eder. Kampfgruppe Gradl remains of 13. Panzer had two motorized infantry battalions from I/66 Panzer-Grenadier Regiment and and II/93 Panzer-Grenadier Regiment. Kampfgruppe Eder which was remains of 10 Panzergrenadier Division which had two battalions of motorized infantry.

25. Hadosztály was supported by 23. Panzer Division. 23. Panzer had 126th and 128th Panzer-Grenadier Regiments. Due to vehicles losses these regiments were motorized. Pz.A.A. 23 the reconnaissance element of 23. Panzers had infantry platoons mounted in Sd.Kfz. 251/1.
