For the Steel Division: Normandy 44 unit see SD:PaK 40 75mm

PaK 40 75mm is a German Anti-tank unit in Steel Division II.

Background[ | ]

The main anti-tank gun employed by the Wehrmacht in 1940 was the Pak 36, which had been ineffective against the heavier Allied tanks during the battle of France. It was succeeded by the Pak 38, a useful weapon which would see use throughout the war. Despite this, the need for a more powerful anti-tank gun became apparent even as the Pak 38 was in development, and became a top priority after German forces were confronted with the new T-34s and KV-1s. This was to be the Pak 40. Production of the new anti-tank gun would start in 1942 and by 1943, it formed the backbone of German anti-tank guns.

78. Sturm's Infantry Companies were originally equipped with two ant-tank platoons of three Pak 40. While over time anti-tank platoons were changed. In the next organization the Infantry company only had one anti-tank platoon while the Regimental Heavy Company gained two anti-tank platoons. The third organization had the company level anti-tank platoon reduced to two anti-tank guns with one a Pak 40 and a Pak 38.

Each Grenadier Regiment should have a anti-tank platoon of three anti-tank guns along with two platoon of 18 Panzerschreck.

Gebirgsjäger Regiments has a motorized Panzerjäger Company with a platoon of Pak 40. Panzerjäger-Bataillon 95 has a company of 12 Pak 40.

In the Heavy Company of the Panzer Grenadier Battalion lost their Anti-tank platoons with the reorganization of anti-tank guns into Panzerjager units.

The Panzerjager abteilung should have a company of 12 towed anti-tank guns.

14. Kompanie of Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 5 and 9 were equipped with two Pak 40s each. Fallschirm-Panzer-Jäger-Abteilung 3 had each company equipped with three 7,5 cm Pak 40 anti-tank guns along with other anti-tank guns.
