M2 mortar was a copy of French Brandt Mle 1935 mortar. These Mortars were produced to bridge the firepower gap between Mortar 81mm and hand grenades.
The Cavalry Troop has in the scout section, three 60mm Mortars mounted in Jeeps.
In the Armored Infantry Battalions had one 60mm M2 Mortar in the Mortar Squad in the Armored Rifle Platoon mounted in M3 HT.
The M2 mortars were used in the Infantry Companies' weapon platoon which had a light mortar section with three M2 60mm Mortars.
