Il-2M Napalm Bomber is a Soviet Air unit in Steel Division II.

Background[ | ]

The Ilyushin IL-2 “Shturmovik” is a one- or two-seat ground attack aircraft produced by the Soviet Union in large numbers during the Second World War. In total 36,183 were build between 1941 and 1945. A prototype flew for the first time late in 1939 and after pre-service testing ended in March 1941 production began immediately. After initial combat sorties during the early stages of Operation Barbarossa highlighted some deficiencies, updated models included a rear observer/gunner and additional armor.

The improvements were implemented in two steps, the first being the "Il-2M", in which the two 20-millimeter ShVAK cannon were replaced with twin high-velocity 23-millimeter VYa cannon, and which incorporated an upgraded AM-38F engine rated at 1,310 kW (1,750 HP).

Armaments[ | ]

VAP-250

The VAP-250 is a Soviet bomb dispenser that is combined with a cluster of 28 2.5 kg napalm bombs. It might be a further developed type of RRAB-3 which was used to drop incendiary bombs over Finland during the Winter War.

YVa-23

The Volkov-Yartsev VYa-23 is a 23 mm autocannon used on Soviet aircraft during World War II. It was intended to be the primary weapon of the Ilyushin Il-2 ground attack aircraft. The original intention was to create a gun capable of penetrating German tank armor.

ShKAS

The ShKAS (Shpitalny-Komaritski Aviatsionny Skorostrelny, Shpitalny-Komaritski rapid fire for aircraft) is a 7.62 mm machine gun widely used by Soviet aircraft in the 1930s and during World War II. ShKAS was used in most Soviet fighters and bombers and served as the basis for the ShVAK cannon.

Berezin UB

The Berezin UB (УБ - Универсальный Березина, "Berezin's Universal") was a 12.7 mm caliber Soviet aircraft machine gun widely used during World War II. The UB is an improved design which came in three different variants: UBK (Крыльевой, Krylyevoi, for the wings), UBS (Синхронный, Sinkhronniy, Synchronized), and UBT(Турельный, Turelniy, for the turret).
