5. Gebirgsjäger had two Gebirgsjäger-Regiment Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 85 and Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 100. These Gebirgsjäger-Regiment were equipped for mountain warfare as well as for warfare in difficult terrain. The regiments depend on mules in the mountains while using motorization in more flat country. The three battalions in each regiment were equipped to be more independent from regimental assets.
