Begleit-Pionier is a German Infantry unit in Steel Division II.
Background[]
Sturmgeschütz Abteilung 189 of 78. Sturm-Division created Sturmgeschütz-Begleitkompanie to provide organic close protection for the StuG III. This unit was to serve as liaisons to the regular infantry on how they can support the StuG III and allow the infantry to do their jobs without needing to provide close protection to the StuGs. Each platoon of Sturmgeschütz-Begleitkompanie was designated to support and ride on a Sturmgeschütz III Assault gun. These troops were also given engineering training countering Soviet counter mobility assets to allow the Sturmgeschütz freedom of movement. These engineers were either in their own separate platoon or integrated into the escort platoons.
