Begleit-Füh. is a German Infantry unit in Steel Division II.

Background[ | ]

During earlier months of 1944 Sturmgeschütz Begleit Batterien were created in the Sturmgeschütz Battalions to provide close protection with organic infantry.

Sturmgeschütz Abteilung 189 of 78. Sturm-Division created Sturmgeschütz-Begleitkompanie to provide organic close protection for the StuG III. This unit was to serve as liaisons to the regular infantry on how they can support the StuG III and allow the infantry to do their jobs without needing to provide close protection to the StuGs. Each platoon of Sturmgeschütz-Begleitkompanie was designated to support and ride on a Sturmgeschütz III Assault gun.

14. Infanterie was supported by Sturmgeschütz-Brigade 667. This brigade has a 4. Batterie which was Sturmgeschütz-Begleitkompanie.

The command squad of a escort platoon was made of 6 soldiers one Platoon commander, a NCO, one engineer and two soldiers. These were mounted on the Assault Gun of the Company commander.
