Background[]
Ar 234 came from a tender for jet-powered high-speed reconnaissance aircraft in 1940. Ardo was the only company to respond to the tender. In 1944 two Ar 234 prototype were configured as fast bombers with production designation of Ar 234 B-2. 210 Ar 234 B were built. The first operational use of Ar 234 were as reconnaissance aircraft flying missions in England and liberated Europe. Kampfgeschwader 76 and Kampfgeschwader 51 were converted to use the Ar 234 B-2 in a strike role.
