M5 half-track was created since the production of M3 HT was not fast enough to keep up with demand. The M5 was similar to the M3 HT. In the Guards Armoured M5 half-track served as the mounts for 1st Battalion, Grenadier Guards who were Motor Rifles Battalion. 1st Battalion, Rifle Brigade were mounted in M5 half-track who were the Motor RIfle Battalion for the 7th Armoured.
