Festung Dünkirchen is an Axis C-rated Infantry division in Steel Division II, available in the Siege of Dunkirk DLC.
Festung Dunkirchen battlegroup was hastily formed in the face of the Allied breakthrough along the French coast in September 1944. Tasked with holding on to the critical port of Dunkirk, this besieged fortress division kept up the fight until the war’s end.
Kriegsmarine garrison troops, Luftwaffe anti-air defense Truppen, raw recruits, Grenadier stragglers from Normandy; the motley battlegroup can count on a wide range of soldiers. Unlike similarly surrounded formations, Festung Dunkirchen sustained high morale and aggressivity, with elite Jagdkampf raiders harassing the besiegers. A few worn-out Panzer IV, StuG, and Marder armor escaped to Dunkirk, including a single Jagdpanther. The true strength of the division lies in its powerful artillery and AA units, as well as its spirited infantry. Only token air support is available.
Festung Dunkirchen excels in defensive combat but will struggle with offensive operations.
