Cheux is one of the battlefields found in Steel Division.
Background[edit | edit source]
One of the objectives set out for Operation Epsom, the village of Cheux was the target of 15th Infantry Division operations. Attacking on June 26, the Division was engaged in heavy fighting, ultimately securing the village. However, heavy artillery bombardment directed by German forces in Rauray caused major casualties, with more German counter-attacks coming on the following day. The chaotic fighting on June 27 eventually left the Allies as victors, but not after suffering heavy casualties. Cheux formed the basis of the Scottish corridor, one of the most impressive tactical achievements of the battles in Normandy.
