5. SS-Panzer "Wiking" is a German Armored division in Steel Division II: Death on the Vistula. Having only recently been brought up to Panzerdivision status, the 5. SS-Panzerdivision “Wiking” was one of the first substantial reinforcements to arrive east. Tasked with preventing Warsaw from falling to the Soviets, the veteran foreign volunteers of this formation inflicted a costly setback to the Red Army around Kovel.
Reconstituted in a hurry, the “Wiking” has an entire armored company equipped with StuG IVs instead of Panzer IVs. Uncustomary, a Bergepanther can be deployed into combat as a heavy prime mover. Furthermore, scavenged Soviet materiel fills its ranks, including Beute T-34/85s and SU-76s. The Luftwaffe can count on the brand-new, long-nosed Fw 190D-9 fighter to achieve aerial superiority.
The 5. SS Panzerdivision “Wiking” fields a large amount of infantry which offsets the absence of hard-hitting tanks, allowing it to still form a very resilient and powerful battlegroup.
