27th Machine-Gun Battalion unlike was not configured like their British counterparts with three machine gun companies along with a Heavy Mortar Company with 16 4.2mm Mortars divided into four platoons. 4.2in Mortars were used by infantry battalions are were consolidated into the 39th Mortar Battery.
